Theodore Otakie
Theodore Otakie graciously and generously left a bequest to the Jefferson Community College Foundation to establish the Theodore R. Otakie Memorial Scholarship upon his passing in 2007. He attended SUNY Potsdam before graduating from Syracuse University. His sister, Christine Acheson, set up the scholarship in 2010. Christine graduated from JCC in 1973 and said her brother was very impressed by the College and what it does for the community. She also said he was a lifelong learner, a valued community member and a good brother.
Impact
Preference for this scholarship is given to a non-traditional student enrolled in a science-based licensure program. The award can be used for an emergency basis, and not necessarily based on FAFSA or usual forms of financial aid criteria. The applicant must provide a short essay, explaining how this award will impact his/her academic career, and prospective work life.
