Richard C. Howland

Richard Howland is a JCC alum having graduated in 1968. After graduating from JCC he attended Cornell University. He is the director and chief operations officer at Haylor, Freyer & Coon, Inc. and served as the Vice President of the JCC Foundation in 1998. Richard served on the Board of Directors for Jefferson County Heart Association, NNY Heart Association, Jefferson County Cancer Society, Greater Watertown Chamber of Commerce, and NNY Center for Independent Living. Currently he is a member of Ives Hill Country Club, Black River Valley Club, Italian-American Civic Association, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge 496, Lions Club, and Ducks Unlimited.

Impact

Richard created four different scholarships to be awarded at JCC. The Joseph E. Howland Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of his late father Joseph. It is awarded to any student who intends to pursue a career in the pulp and paper industry. Second preference is given to an Engineering student. The Oleta M. Farrell Howland Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Richard’s mother Oleta. Since Oleta was a nurse, this scholarship is awarded to any student who intends to pursue a career in the medical sciences. He also created the Jon E. Howland Memorial Scholarship in memory of his late brother Jon who was a graduate of JCC. Preference for this scholarship is given to a Liberal Arts student who intends to pursue a career in teaching/education. Lastly he created the Richard C. Howland Scholarship which is awarded to a returning business student who is judged by the Business Division faculty as “most improved”.
