Mr. and Mrs. Townsend
The Townsend Creative Writing Award was established in 2013 by Terry and Marcia Townsend, in memory of their son, Nathaniel True Townsend. The award, created in his memory, honors creative writers demonstrating passion, dedication and drive, and encourages continued growth and development.
Nathaniel Townsend was born on May 11, 1975 in Gouverneur, NY. He graduated from Hammond Central Schools in 1993 and from Jefferson Community College in 1995. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in communications from Potsdam State University in 1997. While attending Potsdam, he began his career in radio broadcasting. For several years after, he used his talents at PAC 93 and WSLB radio in Ogdensburg.
The Nathaniel Creative Writing Award honors gifted writers who show devoutness and enjoyment to creative writing just like Nathaniel. Through this award, Jefferson Community College students will be able to develop their own skills and appreciation for the art of writing.
The Jefferson Community College Foundation is grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Townsend for providing this award to Jefferson students and for supporting creative minds and aspirations.
